Young Artist Competition

Fifth Annual Young Artist Competition

Finalist will compete at our 2017 Flute Festival
on Sunday, April 2, 2017

1st Place $1000 | 2nd Place $500 | 3rd Place $250 

The Young Artist Competition is open to SFS members who have not reached their thirtieth (30th) birthday by the date of the competition. Flutists cannot participate in the SFS Young Artist Competition if they are eligible for the Frank and Lu Horsfall Competition. The First Place Winner of the 2016 Young Artist Competition is also ineligible to compete in 2017.

To enter the SFS Young Artist Competition, a preliminary recorded audition, application, fee ($50), and membership registration is required.  All application materials must be uploaded by 11:59:00 pm February 22, 2017.  A committee will judge the preliminary auditions and three (3) finalists will be chosen to compete at the SFS Flute Festival on April 2, 2016.  Each finalist will perform a 20 minute program, consisting of repertoire of their choice.  Finalists will have a 10 minute sound check on the day of the competition, and must provide their own accompanist and transportation.  Finalists will be notified by March 1st 2017.

Recording Repertoire:
  • Mozart, Concerto in D Major: Movement 1 + cadenza
  • Contrasting movement from a different piece of choice
Record your audition, audio only, and upload it to Google Drive. For anonymity, no visuals please, only MP3 or WAV file.You may make separate files for each piece if you wish. Title your file accordingly (ex. “Mozart Concerto in D”) Do not include any identifying information in the title. Right click your file and choose "share". Then under the "people" section, type: seattleflute.vicepresident@gmail.com
